Led by the Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, some of the most reported women in West African sub-region gathered in Abuja for the second edition of the West African Women Leadership Conference (WAWLC) from June 17 to 19, 2010.
As in most women fora, child survival was an essential theme at the West African women leadership conference. A resource person at the conference and Director, Alliances and Information at the International Vaccine Access Centre of the John Hopkins University Baltimore USA, Lois Privor-Dumm while speaking on child survival disclosed that 177 thousand children die of pneumonia annually.
As Nigerians await vaccines that will greatly boost child survival in the country, Chizoba Wonodi, an Epidemiologist, also with the John Hopkins University advised mothers on how to protect their children from pneumonia and diarrhea.
