Sixth Annual World Pneumonia Day: Universal Access to Pneumonia Prevention and Care

The Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia announced today the theme of the 2014 World Pneumonia Day commemorations will be “Universal access to pneumonia prevention and care”. In the days leading up to World Pneumonia Day, celebrated every year on November 12, advocates will call upon governments to strengthen commitment to reach every child with interventions that prevent and treat pneumonia, increase investments, and scale-up universal access to proven pneumonia interventions.

Charles Nelson, CEO at Malaria Consortium, the organisation coordinating this year’s World Pneumonia Day, says “While working with our partners in the Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia, we have chosen to focus this year’s theme around the need for increased access to the prevention and care of pneumonia. All partners are fully committed to defeating the world’s number one infectious killer of children.”
