Manufacturers Cut Prices of Key Vaccines

Key players in the global vaccine industry have announced plans to reduce the costs of vaccines desperately needed in the developing world. Slashing the costs of vaccines will help get preventative medicine to more children in the developing world.

GlaxoSmithKline will cut the price of its rotavirus vaccine by two-thirds to US$2.50. Alternatively, the company will charge $5 to fully vaccinate a child. Merck will also reduce the price of its rotavirus vaccine, and will cut the cost of its cervical cancer vaccine by two-thirds as well. Both these vaccines are approved by the World Health Organization and already on the market.
