Making Numbers Count: Fighting Pneumonia in Nepal

Making Numbers Count: Fighting Pneumonia in Nepal

Pneumonia remains the major cause of mortality for children under five years old in many countries, including Nepal. Two major causes of the disease are Hib and pneumococcus. Generating data that shows the burden of the disease caused by these pathogens encourages governments to expand pneumonia prevention strategies. A key part of prevention includes the introduction of vaccines. Conducting research after vaccine introduction on impact, health economics and scheduling helps inform government policy development and positively encourages neighboring countries to introduce life saving vaccines as well.

The shot video below explains how Nepal, with the support of Gavi, is using the power of data to shape the country’s immunization policy.
