Duke Global Health: Raising Money to Fight Pneumonia

Duke Global Health: Raising Money to Fight Pneumonia

Organization: Duke University Master’s of Science – Global Health

Location: Duke University Campus, Durham, NC

About the event:

Several Duke MSc-Global Health students have organized a fun event to recognize World Pneumonia Day on Friday, November 11th, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.  For those familiar with the Duke campus, the event will be in Trent 040.

During the event, students will screen a short documentary produced by BBC Health about pneumonia, and there will be interactive games (Pneumonia Jeopardy) and other activities for faculty, staff and students to participate in (with prizes)!  There will also be an overview of the disease and what people can do to help prevent unnecessary pneumonia deaths.

This group of students has also taken the initiative to make an impact beyond Duke, through a fundraising campaign in support of GAVI’s “Give Kids a Shot” campaign.  The MSc-GH students are trying to raise $1450 in an effort to vaccinate one child for every member of the first year class – 29 kids in total. More information about the fundraising campaign can be found at:  http://bit.ly/MSc-GH2011WPD

If you are in the Duke area, please consider attending the event on Friday, spreading the word, or donating in support of the cause through the site linked above. More about Duke Global Health can be found at @DukeGHI.
